'CREEK FIRE' SAVIOR:
Tujunga Canyon Good-Samaritan called BWF volunteers following his heroic weeks of humanely trapping 100+ dumped domestic bunnies left to perish after their human families fled without them during the area's mandatory evacuation; some rabbits brought from as far as Sylmar. We raced on-site, greeted by a gory scene of a new mother bun under extreme stress; though instinctively ingesting her placenta, was also mindlessly chewing the legs of one of her newborns. Bitter reality. We warmed the infant, gave her love, and helped her cross. We relocated mother & her remaining babies to safety where, no longer suffering stress, mother is nurturing her litter.
That was merely one of NUMUROUS miseries we addressed yesterday (Dec. 16) - the photos tell the story.
Freezing nights bear down on these DESPERATE bunnies, they need IMMEDIATE EVACUATION. Our phone rings NON-STOP with reports of 'STRANDED' buns found EVERYWHERE, plus LA Shelters' constant reliance on us to pull their present load, but BWF remains ready to RESCUE AS MANY BUNNIES from THIS disaster as YOU can help foster! WILL YOU AID VICTIMS OF YET ANOTHER BUNPOCALYPSE?!
WHAT WE'VE DONE SO FAR/WHAT IS NEEDED:
• We've sought assistance from area Animal Control and await further response - they directed us to local Community Advancement Network (CAN) before stepping in, since intake of the CREEK FIRE rabbits would jeopardize their current shelter rabbits.
• We've lined-up mentors to mobilize/educate/help future fosters. Foster Applications have been screened and we’ve met certain applicants today, (SUN. Dec. 17). Screening effort continues, but we need more applicants.
• RIGHT NOW: Aid and Fosters needed NOW for 100 CREEK FIRE rabbits.
>>>Large crates/carriers/litter boxes/bedding/Alfalfa pellets for babies/towels/paper towels/Revolution/Advantage, and more!
>>> Funds for transport & boarding until ALL foster homes are found. $15 per rabbit per day or $25 per pair .
>>$$ for spay/neuter/Revolution treatment/Vet exams/health certs/micro-chipping -- an estimated $275.00 per rabbit; assuming all are healthy, but no doubt they are not!
THOSE WITHOUT PRIOR COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED FOSTER APPLICATIONS: CHANCES ARE YOU COULDN'T TAKE BUNNIES WITH YOU TODAY. BUT REGARDLESS OF APPLICATION STATUS, PLEASE ATTEND OUR SUNDAY ORIENTATION TO BE READY FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK'S PLACEMENT WITH FOSTER BUNNIES. IT’S CRUCIAL THAT MEETINGS WITH FOSTER PARENTS BE IN-PERSON BEFORE ENTRUSTED WITH OUR BUNNIES. RESCUING IS EASY... HUMANS; NOT SO. WE NEED GOOD SOULS WILLING TO COMMUNICATE AND WORK WITH US TOWARD GETTING THESE BUNNIES SAFE, HEALED, AND ADOPTABLE. YOU MUST HAVE ACCESS TO A CAR AND BE WILLING BUNNY-TRANPORTERS TO BWF ADOPTION EVENTS, AND TO OUR VET, IF NEED BE. REMEMBER, RESCUING A LIFE IS ANYTHING BUT CONVENIENT... IT’S A LABOR OF LOVE... A SACRIFICE... BE WILLING TO MAKE ONE, AND THE REWARDS ARE ENDLESS. PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY.
THANK YOU! ~BWF
